brise soleil (solar shading)

Brise Soleil (Solar Shading)

Project:  Triton Knoll O&M Facility Grimsby

Main Contractor:  Tolent Construction Ltd

Architect:  PCP Architects

Product:  145mm Extruded Aluminium Elliptical Aerofoil

Project Sum: £2b

Summary

Two Point Seven Facades Ltd provided a full turn-key package.  We performed the design, manufacture and installation of a aluminium brise soleil (solar shading) system.  The canopy louvres provide shading to combined high end new build offices and manufacturing space, reducing passive solar heat gains.

Building Description

Triton Knoll which began construction in 2018, was given consent in 2016 and 2013 for onshore electricity generation and offshore array, respectively. The government backed the consent with a contract in 2018 which facilitated the finance of £2B for the development of an 857MW ‘Round 2’ offshore wind farm.

The wind farm comprises of 90 x MHI Vestas v164-9.5 MW turbines towering 187m above sea level, with consent granted of up to 220m for the installed blade tip height. The wind farm is expected to supply at least 800,000 average UK households with electricity.

The wind farm, situated 20 miles of the coast of Lincolnshire and 28 miles from the coast of North Norfolk, will become a vital source of home-grown renewable energy. The electricity generated will be stored using an onshore electrical facility.  Operations for the massive offshore array will be managed from Triton Knoll Facility in Grimsby. Which hosts offices, manufacturing spaces and landfill facilities.

External Works - Vertical Brise Soleil

Two Point Seven Facades specified the use of our 145mm extruded aluminium elliptical aerofoil, set at 165mm pitch. The aerofoils are fixed between aluminium side arms, manufactured into complete panels off-site.  The solution required coordination between our engineers and client engineer to develop a system which would connect directly to the steel, situated behind cladding, using a first stage fix steel bracket.
